I believe there is a reason for everything in life. I believe even more that we meet people for a specific purpose, whether we know it at the time or not.

Sarah is that person to me. I met Sarah long ago, probably 6 years or so. We made coffee and gourmet sandwiches (or so we thought) at a cute little cafe during college. We probably spent more time laughing than working, but looking back I'm so grateful for those memories.

When Sarah contacted me to do her wedding, I was more than excited for her. I love her story and the fact that she really knows who she is. Jerry complements her personality so well... a gentle yet humorous and fun spirit is exactly what fits Sarah perfectly.

Sarah and Jerry I wish all the best for both of you, and thank you for having me be a part of it!

Today, my heart is heavy and missing these faces. I ask myself often, "how can I love a place and people so much after spending a mere 7 days with them?" It's one of the few times when I don't even have the words to describe. Instead, I just look at these faces and find joy.

I'm honored to share these photos for a few reasons. Audra and I have had a friendship since my sophomore year and her freshman year in college. We were roommates, hockey buds and spring break road trip pals. Life brought us both different seasons after college, and since my move back to Colorado we're big girls now but our friendship remains.

I heard about Phil at another friend's wedding, and when Audra talked about him she lit up. I knew it was something special. Fast forward a year, and here they are. Their families are truly amazing, and they simply fit together well. I couldn't have picked a more perfect guy for her.

So...Audra and Phil, congratulations. I love you both, and I wish the absolute best for you.

Susan and Blake's love for each other is inspiring. Their personalities are warm, and their smiles are contagious. They know how to have fun and be who they're meant to be. I left our time together feeling like a better person, more joyful, and I wouldn't be surprised if that's how they make everyone feel.

We started the afternoon at Red Rocks, among the amazing light and incredible views. Then we headed downtown, surrounded by energy, architecture and vibrance. I couldn't be happier with the combination.

How many people can plan a mid-west wedding in the middle of February and have a beautiful day like Laura and Kevin?.... not many. But that's exactly what we got!

Laura and Kevin are the sweetest, and their calm personalities and warm smiles invite all who are around them to feel a sense of belonging. A sense of happy. Not to mention, they are beautiful together. Clearly.

Haiti :: Part 2

I hope you enjoyed the first part of my photos from Haiti, and these next ones are definitely some of my favorites. It shows real life in Haiti and the abundance of love and genuine joy the people have. I've been back for almost two weeks, and I'm still processing everything I learned, saw and experienced. You can't walk away from something like this and expect life to ever be the same. That is true in my case. I'm growing every day, relying abundantly on God's vision and plan for the future that can sometimes seem uncertain.

Like before, I'll do my best to narrate in hopes that you'll fully (or partially) understand their life and culture. By the way, I didn't mention this before but for 7 days the only shower I had was a bucket of water I poured over my head each day. Trust me, at the end of every day, I was thankful for that bucket of water.

The cook's kitchen and the spaghetti we fed the kids the night prior to the race. And the laundry room ;)

The start of the 5k! I rode on the back of Mike's motorcycle to get these shots :)

The idea for the race developed because Sylvio needed some positive direction in his life and really enjoyed running. Adam, also training for the Boston marathon, came along side him a few months ago and started running with him, giving him a goal, direction, and something he could feel good about accomplishing.

Sylvio won by a fair amount of distance.

Antoine's comment to me during the race, "This isn't going as planned!" haha

Haiti :: Part 1

I don't even know where to begin to write all of the things I want to. The problem is that I don't feel like I would even do justice in explaining my experience in Haiti. It's something that you have to see, taste, smell in order to fully understand. So, I'll do my best in telling the story through pictures because it seems that's the one thing I know how to do.

I learned, however, that despite everything I saw, these people are just like me. They want to be happy, to be loved and accepted just as they are. They don't have anything in the world's eyes, but they do have an unbelievable joy that is manifested because of genuine relationship with one another. They get it. They are hard workers. And the kids... touched my heart. I'm not a mom, but I have a feeling of what it's like now. To see a child light up when I enter the room, to see them running toward me with open arms, or maybe just a gentle hand that holds tightly as we walked in the village. Their hearts are pure and are not judgemental. Their laughs are contagious.

So, here goes. I'll do my best to narrate as these photos roll...

We arrived in Port au Prince and rode on a bench in the back of a truck for 4 hours until we got to Ti Riviere, the village we stayed at. Talk about a sore behind! During the ride, my heart broke. I didn't understand at the time, but all I could think was "how in the world do these people live like this?!" Trash for days, no rules, no street signs, people everywhere, no traffic lanes, not to mention the smell. The smell of filth, trash, old food, dirt and sweat. Talk about a fun ride.

Then we arrived at Mission Haiti... and my life was changed.

No video games or computers here, just good ol' fashioned arm wrestling.

Hi friends...

I am extremely excited to tell you about something!

I was presented the opportunity to go on a mission trip as the designated photographer for Mission Haiti! Crazy right? I know. The other crazy thing is I leave in about a week!

I will be photographing the first ever Haitian triathlon, documenting every-day life and visiting schools to photograph children that need sponsors, just to name a few projects.

If you want to know more about the Mission Haiti group, feel free to visit the website at www.mission-haiti.org. I pray that I personally, and our group, will be a real blessing to the people there and you can be a part.

First, I ask for your prayers for the safety of our group and God's guidance on this trip. Also pray for the spiritual preparation of the people we will meet. I am so grateful to use my gifts in this great way, and I want to be used in an impacting way.

Second, I ask for any donations of items that are needed both for this trip and for the orphanage. Listed below are the items needed:

1.Food: oatmeal, malt-o-meal, pancake mix, syrup, peanut butter, jelly, canned meat, soup, mac-n-cheese, ramen noodles, tea, boxes rice mixes, snack crackers, etc.

2.Baby formula

3.Adult and children's vitamins

4.Backpacks

5.Tools: wrenches, screwdrivers, pliers, tape measures, hammer, level, saws

Third, you may give financially -- Mission Haiti is run by volunteers. 100% of your donation will go directly to where you specify. Listed below are areas of need:

Hi everyone! I want you to meet the newest family member at KHP... his name is Techit :). I call him Tec for short. He is 7 years old and lives in Thailand. Isn't he the cutest?

The reason I'm taking a break today from posting pretty wedding stuff is that this child right here, moved my heart. I don't even know him. I've never met him, but this picture grabbed my attention. I've been on the website, www.allwally.com all week long searching for the right child to sponsor. Someone who's life I can be a part of and change for the better.

I've never done anything like this before, but for a reason in which I don't know why just yet, I was moved to take action. As I sit here in my little comfort zone, taking pretty photos, and living the good life (as it is said) there are people who are just the opposite. People like Techit.

Techit enjoys art (no wonder I chose him ;)), playing with cars and walking. He is in kindergarten, but his performance isn't the best. We'll change that. He has asthma, and he already has the responsibility of running errands and working for his family.

I'll post frequent updates on how he is doing, and I really hope I get to meet him some day soon.

Talk about ending 2011 wedding season on a good note!

Erica and Kiel's classic, modern and ultra stylish wedding was simply outstanding. These two know how to have fun, and their family and friends might just be some of the best people you'll meet. They laugh, they smile and they truly know how to love others.

Erica and Kiel are both artistic, theatrical and musical, and I love that they chose the Washington Pavilion for their reception....probably one of my favorite places in Sioux Falls to photograph a reception :). Kiel is a graphic designer and designed all of their stationary including the "guest book" tree for guests to mark their finger print. Stacy with the Flower Mill did a stunning job with the floral decor, and they topped the night off with live band, Main Avenue Warehouse!

Lauren and Elliot's story is one most only see in the movies. These two met in middle school, started dating, Elliot moved away, they still dated, and have been dating ever since... I believe 10 years! Seriously... what are the odds of marrying a middle school crush?

But once I saw Lauren and Elliot together, I knew exactly why. They compliment each other better than most people I've seen.... Lauren is a fun, beautiful, social butterfly and Elliot is her quiet, laid back, and solid guy.
