Hi everyone! I want you to meet the newest family member at KHP... his name is Techit :). I call him Tec for short. He is 7 years old and lives in Thailand. Isn't he the cutest?

The reason I'm taking a break today from posting pretty wedding stuff is that this child right here, moved my heart. I don't even know him. I've never met him, but this picture grabbed my attention. I've been on the website, www.allwally.com all week long searching for the right child to sponsor. Someone who's life I can be a part of and change for the better.

I've never done anything like this before, but for a reason in which I don't know why just yet, I was moved to take action. As I sit here in my little comfort zone, taking pretty photos, and living the good life (as it is said) there are people who are just the opposite. People like Techit.

Techit enjoys art (no wonder I chose him ;)), playing with cars and walking. He is in kindergarten, but his performance isn't the best. We'll change that. He has asthma, and he already has the responsibility of running errands and working for his family.

I'll post frequent updates on how he is doing, and I really hope I get to meet him some day soon.

Talk about ending 2011 wedding season on a good note!

Erica and Kiel's classic, modern and ultra stylish wedding was simply outstanding. These two know how to have fun, and their family and friends might just be some of the best people you'll meet. They laugh, they smile and they truly know how to love others.

Erica and Kiel are both artistic, theatrical and musical, and I love that they chose the Washington Pavilion for their reception....probably one of my favorite places in Sioux Falls to photograph a reception :). Kiel is a graphic designer and designed all of their stationary including the "guest book" tree for guests to mark their finger print. Stacy with the Flower Mill did a stunning job with the floral decor, and they topped the night off with live band, Main Avenue Warehouse!

Lauren and Elliot's story is one most only see in the movies. These two met in middle school, started dating, Elliot moved away, they still dated, and have been dating ever since... I believe 10 years! Seriously... what are the odds of marrying a middle school crush?

But once I saw Lauren and Elliot together, I knew exactly why. They compliment each other better than most people I've seen.... Lauren is a fun, beautiful, social butterfly and Elliot is her quiet, laid back, and solid guy.

I know it's been a while, but what better way to start 2012 blog posts than with an engagement in Denver?!

I spent the afternoon with Tessa and Adam a couple months ago, and a great time was spent re-acquainting with Tessa and meeting Adam for the first time. Their personalities are so warm and welcoming, it's no wonder they have so many incredible friends!

I love the diversity of city life and outdoor life, and so do Tessa and Adam so it was fitting to incorporate both into their engagement. Now that Colorado is my new home, I find myself overwhelmed with beautiful locations to photograph. Not such a bad dilemma, I'd say.

On the Move

Well friends, after a year of planning, marketing, moving, de-cluttering, moving again, photographing, traveling and learning, we've come to our final farewell in Sioux Falls, and say hello to Colorado. I cannot thank my clients, supporters, friends and family enough the past 3 1/2 years. Whether you know it or not, I'm thankful for each of you every-single-day. My hope is that perhaps I've inspired, challenged or evoked something new in some of you that makes you a more passionate person in whatever it is that moves you.

If you've been following for a while, you know how passionate I am about doing what I do, and doing it the best I can possibly do. More importantly, I'm thrilled that by what I do, it can bring an unexplainable joy to someone's life. That's what it's all about for me.

As we make this transition, I would love it if you continue to follow this blog. I have big dreams and goals this year, and I would love to share it with you.
The question I get quite often is, "Will you travel to do my wedding?" The answer is always yes. Fort Collins, Colorado will be our home, but I'm deeply excited about travel, and I'm always willing to go wherever your destination might be.

So thank you, Sioux Falls, for warmly welcoming a girl into your world 4 years ago. I'm grateful.

I've always been told that if you're missed when you're gone, you've made a difference. And that to me, is enough.

I apologize for being MIA lately. It seems that packing up 2 businesses and a house to move 11 hours away isn't as easy as I thought. We've de-cluttered and de-cluttered some more. I keep asking myself "how in the world have we accumulated all this STUFF in 3 years?!" Which got me thinking, "Do we really need all of the things we have?" The obvious answer is no.
We've actually really enjoyed selling, giving away, trashing, etc. It's therapeutic, one might say. Not only are we moving 11 hours away, but we decided to move during the coldest time of the year. We're really smart.

Now to the actual reason of this post....
Because it's been so frigid cold lately, I thought it would be nice to see sunshine and green leaves again, and it makes me happy to see such rich, golden colors. So, please enjoy a little engagement session with a couple I adore. They are fun, cute, and just my style. Erica and Jon, I'm looking forward to your wedding in just a few short months!

Amy and Jacob {Wedding Photography}

Amy and Jacob's day was one to remember. November in South Dakota is often unpredictable. For you midwesterners, you know that one day it could be beautiful, sunny skies, and the next day a blizzard. Thankfully there were no blizzards, but we did have an incredibly windy day!
Nonetheless, Amy and Jacob's day was filled with laughter, fun, friends and family. The love and support for these two was admirable, and tears of joy were shed the entire day...mostly by Jacob ;).
I say this probably far too often than one might want to hear, but I couldn't be happier with the people I get to work with. Their appreciation for photography and art is incredible, and I'm grateful for people like Amy and Jacob.

As life slows down 'slightly', Thanksgiving is probably my favorite holiday. Simply because in my life it's about giving thanks, spending time with family, being blessed, and this year running the Turkey Trot with my awesome hubs! I seem to be more thankful every year. Thankful to do what I do, to make a difference, and to meet the people I do. I couldn't do this without YOU people. People reading this blog, people who I've gotten to photograph, and people who have just been there for support. I'm so thankful for you all.
So I hope you enjoy your holiday. Take time to give thanks, to really hug someone, and to be with people that have made a difference in your life.

The rain stayed away to get beautiful outdoor photos in the corn fields, and the sun came out just in time for their reception on the river.
Fun, genuine, calm, and loving are all words that describe Brittany and Chad. They have a serene yet witty humor about them which makes being in their presence even more fun. Britt and Chad shine as individuals, but they shine even brighter as a couple. And that is something real special.

Bre and Nate {Colorado Engagement Photography}

Around this time every year, I take time to slow down and reflect, as I'm sure most wedding professionals do. I have a few more fabulous weddings to photograph in 2011, but to sum up this year in two words... challenging and blessed. Quite the opposites it seems. But I feel that when we are challenged, that's when we grow the most. This year has been a year of transition. Transitioning to film, transitioning to Colorado (although we're not quite there yet), transitioning out of our house, transitioning in our business. With transition comes challenges. But I see a challenge as not only that; it's what you choose to do with it that really counts. In KHP and life, we choose to grow, to get better, and to be more inspired every day.
On another note, I am blessed because of the amazing people I work with every day. I realize I've been given an array of creative gifts, and I couldn't feel more blessed.
I have clients like Rai and Justin that make life joyful just being in their presence. Clients that really appreciate time, art, and photography. Clients that make my job and my life worth the hours put into a what I do every day.
Rai and Justin have an amazing sense of style, class and overall happiness. Their day was one that seemed effortless. Like everything fell into place perfectly. One of my favorite episodes was seeing the surprised joy on Rai's face when she found out they were going to New Zealand for their honeymoon! How fun is that?!
Truly, I could not feel more blessed and humbled at this point in my life, and I'm over the moon excited to share my vision for beyond today. Please enjoy a small piece of Rai and Justin's beautiful day!

Double Wedding! {South Dakota Wedding}

There are a lot of firsts in this industry, but I can say that this is the first double wedding I've ever done. In the days prior to Kelly, Andrew, Kaycie and Joe's wedding day, I wasn't sure what to expect. Although we meticulously planned the schedule, anything was possible. Would it be chaotic? smooth? dramatic? fun? Those were all the questions going through my mind prior to their wedding day. I called in extra help....just in case :).
Much to my surprise, when we arrived at the Hansen house it was unusually calm. Smiles and laughter all around. Kelly and Kaycie are two very GORGEOUS girls, and they have a care free spirit about them. Most importantly, they love people and life. They took the day as it came, and truly shined as sisters and brides together.
Let's not forget their grooms! Joe and Andrew are clearly handsome. They were smitten, and this day truly could not have worked better, having four really amazing people share their special day.
They were married at the beautiful McKennan Park, and the evening light was breathtaking. After the small and intimate ceremony, they were greeted by hundreds of guests at the new rustic, yet chic Luciano's.
Following dinner, toasts, cake cutting and a little mingling, the guests headed downstairs to the wine cellar for a fun night of dancing. A truly remarkable day, for sure.
Kelly, Andrew, Kaycie, Joe... it was a true pleasure photographing such a special day. I wish you all the best! xo.

Between the laughter, sports talk, photography talk, and just being real, I had a great time not only photographing Sarah and Adam, but simply hanging out with them. They have an infectious energy that lights up the environment wherever they are.
Sarah and Adam met at college... he was a football player, she was a basketball player...they caught each other's eyes and have been the Swingdorf-Krabbenhoft couple ever since :).
Sarah has a great sense of style, incorporating her beautiful and creative wedding colors into the engagement photos. I can't hardly wait to see what she comes up with for her outdoor, barn-inspired wedding next summer!

Kristina and Brad {Minnesota Wedding Photography}

When photographing for family, there's a slight added pressure. Pressure to do the best job, to be professional, yet be a guest, and to coordinate an array of personalities in an organized manner.
Thankfully I had two really amazing families to work with, and Brad and Kristina made my job enjoyable. In fact, the location they chose was stunning, and with a beautiful sunny day in Minnesota, I was quite pleased.
Brad and Kristina met through a mutual friend, and with a little help from social media....~~facebook~~... they have been inseparable since. They fit perfectly, each having a quirky, fun, laid back aura. Although Brad maybe a little more ;), it works for them, and that's what matters most.
The lucky ducks just returned from spending two weeks on the beautiful island of Hawaii. Jealous.

I absolutely love a wedding where you just feel good. The people, the environment, the style, the guests.... all variables that make up a beautiful and memorable day.
Katie and Benny's unique outdoor wedding was just that. They chose the private farm residence of Kristina Keuhn, owner of K restaurant in Sioux Falls. The day was cold and overcast, which made it even more cozy and fun for guests to gather around the fire, have conversation, and simply enjoy themselves. I adored the lovely vintage pieces Katie incorporated as well as the beautiful floral by Fleur Decor out of Denver.
Katie and Benny share an incredible story... one that is almost unbelievable. They played on the same baseball team years ago. Katie being the only girl on the team. Life happened, and they went their separate ways. Katie moved away, traveled, explored. Several years later they happened to catch a glimpse of each other in Sioux Falls, all grown up... and as they say.... the rest is history.

Creative, type-A girl meets driven, yet laid back boy. Together sparks fly.
Liz and Jake are those people. I met them at a wedding last year and I knew we would meet again. I just had a feeling.
When Liz contacted me a few months later after she and Jake were engaged, I couldn't have been happier to do their wedding. Liz described her dream wedding, set in her parent's colorful and lush backyard, reminiscent of her creative childhood. She spent the year of her engagement searching for unique pieces to pull her vision together, and with her mom being a fantastic florist, she had it made.

Shauna and Travis {Wedding Photography}

Fun, playful, and laid back. All words that describe Shauna, Travis and the many people that surround them. This was one of the funnest weddings, all because of the people.
Shauna and her mom had a vision to transform the El Riad Shrine, and with the help of Leah at Envision Wedding Studio I was pleasantly surprised by the design, style and overall environment they created. It is a photographers dream when details do not go unnoticed.

Words of Encouragement

Nobody tells this to people who are beginners, I wish someone told me. All of us who do creative work, we get into it because we have good taste. But there is this gap. For the first couple years you make stuff, it’s just not that good. It’s trying to be good, it has potential, but it’s not. But your taste, the thing that got you into the game, is still killer. And your taste is why your work disappoints you. A lot of people never get past this phase, they quit. Most people I know who do interesting, creative work went through years of this. We know our work doesn’t have this special thing that we want it to have. We all go through this. And if you are just starting out or you are still in this phase, you gotta know its normal and the most important thing you can do is do a lot of work. Put yourself on a deadline so that every week you will finish one story. It is only by going through a volume of work that you will close that gap, and your work will be as good as your ambitions. And I took longer to figure out how to do this than anyone I’ve ever met. It’s gonna take awhile. It’s normal to take awhile. You’ve just gotta fight your way through.

Hannah and Dan {Colorado Wedding Photography}

There are people in life that make it better simply by their presence. Hannah and Dan separately are two incredible people, but when they are together magic truly happens. They both light up when in each other's company. Their relationship is built on a solid foundation, and after being married for 3 years myself, that's the one thing I find most important.

This wedding was a special one for me. Dan and I were neighbors in college... he lived with 4 other guys, I lived with 4 other girls.... two different houses on the same property. We had family dinners, late night chats, and a lot of laughter. I was reminded of how true friendship and community should be.

During the wedding I got to reunite with several college friends, and I realized that time and life may pass, but friendships last.

Unfortunately, my heart always hurts when I leave Colorado. Partly because I knew we were leaving the one place that I love, and partly because I had to leave that place of friendship. The place where I feel alive and inspired.

The good part.... in 4 months there will be no more leaving. Instead we get to stay :). And that makes the waiting all the better.

If I had my choice, I would do an all outdoor wedding. It provides a cohesive design and look when photographed, and quite honestly, I LOVE natural light on film. Unfortunately, the unpredictable weather makes it pretty hard to pull off in the midwest. Thankfully, I was overjoyed when I knew I would be photographing a wedding outdoors, such as this.
Nicole and Dustin share a love for golf, so it was fitting that they had a wedding on a golf course. They carried their theme in every detail, from the card holder to the escort cards having a different colored tee for which meal each guest preferred. Oh, and the purple! Why don't more brides use a purple color palette?!

If you've been following this blog for a while, you already know how passionate I am about art...especially photography. However, there's one thing that I might possibly be more passionate about. That is seeing people live up to their full potential. Every day.
You see, I think we live in a world were mediocrity is widely accepted. We like to take the easy way most of the time. I believe deep down we all want to be successful and live a life of purpose. The problem is we live in a society of instant gratification, and if we don't see success right away, we quit. I am guilty of this too. I want things to happen right now! When they don't, I move on to the next thing. That is until I caught on to what I was doing to myself.
Without trying to sound cliche... success really doesn't happen over night. We HAVE to develop consistent, daily principles to create a firm foundation for where we want to go. In other words... it takes time. Sometimes longer than we want, but it's the persevering that builds a solid foundation.
Photography is not my ending place... it is only the beginning. I know I was created for more than this, and I believe we all are made for more.
So thanks to one of my favorite websites, Making Things Happen (and I challenge you to check it out!), I'm moving forward, developing daily principles that will consistently grow me, stretch me, and build me into the person I was created to be. To have the success God intends for me.
One of the items on my extensive to-do list is to create a "What Fires Me Up" chart. To look at it daily, and know why I do what I do. When I'm in a rut, when I'm lazy, when I'm wasting time... I look at it, and I'm reminded again of the things I'm passionate about. Things that get me excited to live.
It could be considered a rambling of thoughts in no particular order, but it works for me. I challenge you to do the same. As I begin developing more principles, I will share them.... and perhaps get you fired up to really live up to your full potential.

We are at the half way point in our wedding season and I have to say... this year has been a blast so far. We have the most amazing clients, and I'm blessed to work with professionals that care about the little details that go into every wedding. Enough said.

Now, meet Karli and Justin. I felt like family at their wedding. Why? Because their families and friends are some of the most welcoming people I've met. They love to have a good time, and they are so very generous with their outpouring of kindness.

Karli and Justin were high school sweethearts, college sweethearts, and now life sweethearts. They dated for almost 10 years before getting married!

They are a perfect match.. Karli very type A dentist, and Justin.. cool, calm and collected attorney. Both very driven, and both very genuine.

why film?

I get questions almost daily... why do you shoot film now? what is the difference? why do you like it better? how can you shoot film in such a digital world?

I like simplicity in my life so the simple answer is it makes me happy. But I realize that doesn't satisfy other's curiosity of why I shoot with such a strange looking camera. So here are a few reasons about why...

1. I can't get over the color and tonal quality that film provides. The rich color, creamy skin tones, and amazing depth. The photos seem to come alive on paper.
2. I love the unknown. I love that I don't see my images right away. It makes me more engaged and focused in what i'm doing here and now... rather than fiddling with my camera and taking thousands of unnecessary shots.
3. I love that I have a life. I get to spend quality time and energy at a shoot, and I get to have a life too. I'm no longer spending hundreds of hours in front of a computer, editing. In the words of Brian at Richard Photo Lab... "if you're spending too many hours editing, you're not marketing your business, and if you're not marketing your business, eventually it will fade."
4. Lastly and most importantly... I am a photographer. I love being a photographer, not a photo editor. I love that I can trust my knowledge, my skills, and my equipment to get the shot right... in camera. Do I pay A LOT more because I shoot film? Yes. But in the end, I am an artist. And when I'm happy doing what I do, my clients are happy in return.

I've always said...find the path you love, and don't waste your time trying to be something or someone you're not. Film is the path I love. It's that simple.

Would I really photograph for Anthropologie gift cards? Maybe if I was single!
I recently photographed my sweet little niece, Aniston, and in return by surprise I was delighted to receive this little card in the mail. I'm not sure if I was more excited to go shopping or by the amazing thought and creative details of a simple little gift card.
The point.... people really do pay attention to the little things. To me, the little things count. And they go a long way to show how much someone really cares about their product, their service and their brand.

Sara and Matthew {Northern Colorado After-Wedding Portraits}

You might recognize Sara's pretty face. She was the model we used for the winning cover of Rocky Mountain Bride Magazine...and she happens to be my good friend from college. Matthew too.
Unfortunately I wasn't able to photograph Sara and Matthew's wedding, so we took advantage of my recent trip to Colorado to shoot them in their wedding attire at the same breathtaking venue as their real wedding.
Sara and Matthew couldn't be more perfect together, and I'm pretty sure they have more fun than most couples I know. They know how to laugh, to have fun, and to love life together.
Sara and Matthew, thanks for being such great role models as people and as a couple. I can't wait to spend many more times with you two very soon!

Alyssa and Matt {Wash Park Photography}

I believe that every interaction was meant to happen for a real purpose.
I met Alyssa in California about 5 years ago. She was doing a summer project in Long Beach, and I was in San Diego. We spent an afternoon at Sea World with a mutual friend, met some fun people, and went our separate ways. Alyssa happened to marry a Colorado guy, Matt, and they ended up in Denver. Yay!
Time went by, and Brandon and I were in Rapid City for the weekend, getting coffee at Starbucks, and wouldn't you know... Alyssa and Matt were there too! They took a random trip with friends to see Mt. Rushmore for the weekend...who knew. After a short re-aquainting, we said our hellos and goodbyes...they went back to Denver, we went back to Sioux Falls.
During my most recent trip to Denver, I couldn't pass up the opportunity to photograph Alyssa and Matt. We dodged the rain, laughed a lot, and shot a few photos. I believe that this 5 year reoccurring friendship will only get better when it's our turn to settle in Denver...in just a few months :).

Meet Christy. A painter. A teacher. A beautiful person.
I often find that I get inspiration by spending time with other artists, forward thinkers, and inspiring people. Christy is that person. By working with Christy on a project for Posh Boutique, I discovered the amazing person she is inside and out. Therefore, I felt the need to share about her and her amazing work. I admire her work, her art, her use of color. So... here is a little bit from Christy.... her thoughts about her own art.

Q.What inspires you?
A.Color pallets. I LOVE a good color combo. So many of my pieces are direct results of seeing great colors together-in fabrics, in nature, in fashion.

Q.How long have you been painting?
A. Almost 6 years. I took a painting course for fun my freshman year of college and accidentally fell in love with it.

Q.When did you discover your talent?
A. I realized painting was something I could do after spending time in the studio with the most encouraging and insightful collogues and professors.

Q.What are your goals in the next year or two or three?
A. I'll be starting year 2 as an Art teacher in the fall. I like to be able to give my students the same sense of freedom and endorsement that I got when I was in the studio.
As an artist, I'd like to see my work in a few more homes. Further, I'd love to get more involved in room design; whether its painting a piece specifically to tie a room together, or working from a piece to create a great living space.

Kelly and Andrew {Engagement Photography}

Imagine...two beautiful sisters, two wedding dresses, two grooms, two bouquets, one wedding. Fun huh?! Kelly and Kaycie are sisters and best friends, and when they told me they were having a double wedding, I thought.... really?! That's crazy! But I thought a second time... and this time I beamed with excitement. If I could add two more sisters to my family, Kelly and Kaycie would be it.
And now for Kelly and Andrew. They are gorgeous together right? We had so much fun shooting this engagement because Andrew couldn't keep his eyes off Kelly, and Kelly had that beautiful smile plastered on her face the entire time. I love genuine people, and I feel fortunate to meet so many sweet people in the world that I live in.

Lindsay and Shane {Minnesota Wedding Photography}

If you're one who loves details, this wedding is for you. I adored the sweet pastels and soft details Lindsay chose for her outdoor Minnesota wedding.
Lindsay and Shane met by perfect accident. Their separate friends each invited them to a bonfire in which neither really had a desire to go. Shane's friends, wanting him to go along, said..."who knows, you may meet your future wife tonight". So very doubtfully Shane went. When he arrived- Shane saw among several people in the town- Lindsay... in jeans and a t-shirt, no makeup, sitting with her friend by the bonfire. It was then that their story began...
Lindsay and Shane were married in Minnesota, on a golf course, under and oak tree. I can't get over the sweet details Lindsay created herself... with a little help from her mom. The mix of pastels with simple outdoor elements was a perfect blend of their style. Thankfully the rain stayed away so we could capture their beautiful day outside, among nature and all the people they love. Lindsay and Shane...thanks for letting us photograph your day and for your sweet love that is evident in the way you treat each other and everyone that surrounds you.

Jess and John {Wedding Photography}

A sweet kindergarten teacher meets a financial advisor on a golf course. He thinks she's beautiful; she thinks he's cute....and sparks fly. Therein begins the story of Jess and John.

Over the months of their engagement I got to know Jess and John more as friends than clients. Individually they are kind, gentle and somewhat opposite. Together they balance each other to make a great match. They light up a room, and people love being around them. Jess' sweet smile and warm heart are contagious... it's no wonder why several of her kids from school came out to watch them take photos.

Their day was gorgeous--the details, the weather, the guests and the bridal party. Even better, I got to work with some of my favorite wedding professionals to make Jess and John's day even more amazing.

Meet Liz and Jake. they are smart. they are quirky. and they are completely perfect for each other.

I thoroughly enjoyed spending time with them and learning about how interesting they are. Much of their dating time was spent apart... Liz in dental school at UNL and Jake going to school in D.C. It was a time to grow and learn who they are as individuals, while also learning what it takes to make long distance last.

Because they are two people who love adventure and discovery, it was fitting that Jake proposed on a backpacking trip to Yellowstone.

Every time I sit down to write a blog post, I smile, knowing that I get to work with AMAZING clients... every-single-day. Really...I am so grateful for my clients. I'd rather call them friends than clients.

Jessica and Steve {Wedding Photography}

Friends, this wedding is a real treat for me to share. Jess and Steve are two of the most genuine and kind-hearted people I've met. Jess grew up in Sioux Falls, and although they both live on the east coast, she wanted to come back to her roots for their special day. The best part? Over 100 of their guests traveled all the way from New York and other areas to join them. One friend said..."Jess, I just have to ask...do you live on a farm?" when all she saw was one house and large squares of land as she flew in.
The detail Jess and Steve put into their wedding was made possible by great vendors including Envision Wedding Studio, The Flower Mill, DJ Jer, and the Washington Pavilion... just to name a few.
They wanted a mid-summer's night dream theme, and it couldn't have worked out better to have a cocktail hour at the Pavilion, followed by a grand entrance into the main theatre by their guests. The day was lovely, and I say this a lot...but I feel so fortunate to work with the people I do and to give them a gift they can always remember. Enjoy.

Jose Villa Workshop

It's finally time, friends. My heart is so happy today.
After waiting 3 weeks to see what I created, I was overwhelmed with joy. I had the once-in-a-lifetime privilege to spend 3 days 1-on-1 with Jose Villa, and other than my own wedding day it was the best time... ever! Jose is clearly an amazing artist, but I found myself admiring his humble and friendly spirit. It was quite refreshing to see someone so successful be so down to earth. I felt at home. I felt like I was finally understood and inspired as an artist. Jose and his amazing team are truly incredible people. And thank you to Richard Photo Lab for partnering with me to create such beautiful work.
Now onto film... my heart is happy when I shoot film. I shot film 100% of the time in California... in fact I didn't even want to touch a digital camera. Yes it's different, rare, and at first intimidating. Prior to California, I was feeling sad about what I was doing as an artist shooting digitally, and I wanted to get back to being a photographer, not a photo editor. So, Jose being awesome, showed me how fun, easy and rewarding film really is. I'm grateful to have had such an extensive digital foundation because I made a few adjustments, and this is what we created! This is only one of the three shoots we did.
I feel truly blessed to be where I'm at and to be given such an amazing gift. Words can't even describe it.

I love film. I mean REALLY love it. It's like that deep down, I love-it-so-much-I-want-the-world-to-know, kind of love. I'm really excited to share my entire experience in California with you all, and yes, I'm waiting on lovely photos to accompany that post.
In the meantime, I wanted to share one of my several amazing couples of this year, Rai and Justin. These two are so fun, adventurous, and willing to jump into freezing cold water, just because I asked. That's my kind of couple.
We braved the cloudy, rainy and horrendously windy day for these photos, and by the looks on their faces, you would think it was sunny and 85. We even saw a snake! My first snake experience on an engagement shoot.

Packing Up, Moving Out

Yes, it's that time. No, we're not quite moving to Colorado... we still have a few months before that happens. But, we are moving our studio location. If you feel in the dark, click here to read about our current happenings.
To make this as easy as possible for our readers, clients, and potential clients, I've created a map- see below. Our new address beginning tomorrow, June 1st, will be 4301 W. 57th Street, Suite 102. You simply take 57th Street west of Louise, then turn on S. Rolling Green, and we are on the main level of Donegal Centre, Suite 102.
It's a smaller, cozier space, but we love that. We don't need or want a big, fancy studio. We've learned that simple is best... for us. We couldn't be happier about where we are at and where we are going. This move is temporary until we move out to Colorado, where we feel led and inspired to be.
On another note, please stop by Sarah Storm Photography's new studio. She is a newborn and children's photographer that will be moving into our current space at the Bridges. She is a gem and such a sweet person to work with, and we wish her the very best!

Hello blog friends. I know it's been a while, but we've been busy creating. And busy being inspired by new things. In this industry, something is always new.
I shot Maggie and Mike's wedding a couple weeks before I left for sunny California where I was stretched, inspired, and truly felt alive as an artist. Much more on that later, this blog is about Maggie and Mike :).
The day was unpredictable... wind, clouds, sprinkles, sunshine... but we pulled it off, and I absolutely adore Maggie and Mike's carefree spirit. It was easy to capture the emotional impact of their wedding. They are who they are, and that's what I love. I also loved that I got to work with one of my favorite florists, Leigh, with Bella Rosa. If there's one thing I like about a blog is it gives a voice to the narrator- the source; therefore eliminating any rumor, misconception, miscommunication, and the like. So as I begin to write, this month is quite bittersweet. Bitter because we will be moving out of our current location (which we love) at the end of the month, but sweet because we're looking beyond to our move to Colorado.
I'm a believer in things happening for a specific reason, and this couldn't have worked out better. As we began our transition to Colorado, we got a little bug in our ear that a children's photographer had been looking for a space for about a year, and she just couldn't find one she loved. So, my ears perked up, and I said "Why not move out of our space early so we could offer it to her?" So, friends, that's what happened. Sarah Storm Art & Photography will be moving into our current space at the bridges beginning June 1st. She specializes in children and newborn photography, and she has the most kind and genuine personality.
We will be moving to a smaller temporary location for the remaining months until we finally move to Colorado. I'll have more information as time gets closer, but rest assured, we are still here, and we are loving what we have on our calendar this summer and fall.
We truly have the best clients, and we love being inspired by the little twists that make life all the better.
